¿Es posible combinar animación con serigrafía?
En este proyecto, realizado junto a Lau López, puedes ver que sí.
La idea era realizar una animación simple y corta, y estamparla para probar cómo quedaría. Decidimos animar una medusa.

Is it possible to mix animation and screen printing?
In this project, made with Lau López, we prove that it is.
The idea was to make a short and simple frame to frame animation and print it to see how it would look like. We decided to animate a jellyfish.
1. Rotoscopia -
1. Rotoscopy
El primer paso fue hacer un rough del movimiento de una medusa. Para ello hicimos rotoscopia a partir de un vídeo existente. Usamos Photoshop para hacer el frame a frame. Tenía que ser en 100% negro para poder hacer la pantalla de serigrafía posteriormente.

The first thing to do was to make a rough animation of the jellyfish movement. To do that, we used rotoscopy, following a pre-existing video. We used Photoshop to draw it frame by frame. The colour had to be 100% black so we could prepare the screen for the printing.
2. Serigrafía -
2. Screen Printing
Una vez hecha la pantalla, usamos tinta de serigrafía para pintar los frames uno a uno. La idea era que, con una sola impresión, pudieramos hacer una lámina que luego recortaríamos para hacer el vídeo. La dificultad de esto es que no sabes cómo se van a mezclar los colores al pasar la rascleta de serigrafía.

Once the screen was done, we used different colours to paint the frames one by one. Our intention was to make a print with just one squegee pass. The hard part of it was that you never know how colours are going to be mixed when you print it.
3. Animación -
3. Animation
Finalmente, una vez estampada la lámina (que queda genial de por sí), hicimos fotos de los diferentes frames para poder realizar la animación.
El proceso fue hecho con After Effects, cuadrando los frames lo máximo posible y aplicando filtros para que resultara más atractiva.

Finally, once the frames were printed (which actually looks great), we took photos of all the frames to make the animation.
The rest of the process was done on After Effects, making sure the frames were aligned, and applying some filters so the result was more attractive.
